Get Involved!
There are many ways to get involved in the McPherson community! Whether you have an hour every now and then or are ready to spearhead a committee for a big event, there is something for everyone. Below are just a few examples of the kinds of support FOM needs throughout the year.
Be sure to sign up for our newsletter and check us out on social media as many volunteer opportunities will be announced via those channels.

Your ideas and enthusiasm help to move things forward. Not sure how to get involved? Interested in learning more about our work? Consider coming to a FOM meeting. We welcome you to share your insights, brainstorm with us, or just listen in. This is a great step towards getting engaged in the work we do.
We meet once a month and offer a virtual option for those who cannot attend in person. Meetings are generally at 8:00 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month during the school year.

FOM organizes a number of events throughout the year and help is always needed! Many of our events include opportunities to help out on the day of, including the chance to get involved in the set up, direct action, or clean up.
Some examples include prepping the playground for our Walkathon, running registers during the Book Fair, and working the Spiritwear table. These are often flexible opportunities that offer an a-la cart approach to volunteering. Pick and choose what you have time for and hit that sign up sheet!

From time to time, special projects come up where we could use some extra hands. Are you an Ikea instructions wizard? Do you wield a power tool like Thor wields his hammer? Do you make a mean balloon animal? This kind of volunteering may be right for you!
Some past examples include assembling furniture for classrooms and beautifying the playground area. These are usually volunteer opportunities that require a short commitment (think an hour or two) just during the duration of the project.

FOM has a number of committees and invites anyone interested to join at any time during the year. Committee areas include service and community outreach, book fair, social media, communications, and more.

Ready to dive deeper? While FOM leadership takes on the organization of many events, we also love to share the joy of event management with others. If you are interested in being the point person for an event or fundraiser, please let us know! Past examples include, serving as the Dinearound coordinator, taking charge of the Affy Tapple fundraiser, or serving as room parent coordinator.
These volunteer opportunities usually require more energy and a longer time commitment than helping out with individual event support but make a big difference in our ability to serve the McPherson community.

Volunteers who are willing to commit to a yearlong opportunity and want to connect by supporting a classroom directly may be interested in serving as a room parent. At the start of each school year, we reach out for volunteers to help in this capacity. Room parents' primary role is to facilitate communications between FOM, their assigned teacher, and families. However, they may also assist with other classroom projects, depending on the needs of the teacher. Every classroom is different and needs may change from year to year.

Have a special skill that you are willing to share in support of McPherson? Let us know! We are always looking for ways to enhance our work and create the best possible learning environment for our school. Some areas of assistance we've used in the past include graphic design, balloon arches, web development, photography, social media, accounting, crafting, and more. Sometimes these needs are event specific and other times they are ongoing but it never hurts to let us know about any talents you may be able to contribute.
